Mayra Gonzalez Fortozo, DVM

Dr. Gonzalez discovered her passion for veterinary medicine at the age of 7 when she welcomed her first dog into her life. Determined to turn her dream into reality, she earned her veterinary degree from the prestigious Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City, graduating in 2012.

During her studies, Dr. Gonzalez broadened her clinical experience with rotations in Spain at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She also completed her social service in the dentistry department at UNAM, igniting her interest in this area.

Dr. Gonzalez further honed her skills through a rigorous two-year internship and residency in small animal medicine and surgery at UNAM. Following her training, she founded and operated for six years Vet Medica, a thriving veterinary clinic in Mexico City, where she focused on feline medicine and stress-free practices.

In 2021, Dr. Gonzalez relocated to Toronto, Canada, to continue her journey as an associate veterinarian. She joined Spadina Animal Hospital in 2023, where her compassionate approach and dedication to high-quality care make her a valued member of the team.

Outside of work, Dr. Gonzalez is passionate about paleontology, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and sharing her time with her beloved cat
